FABRICS
Novadown uses only 100% natural materials in its fabrics. When
considering what fabric you prefer the thread count and type of
weave are important.
THREAD COUNT
Thread count is calculated by the addition of the number of threads
in both directions of the weave. It is measured in a one inch direction
from a given point. The higher thread count means finer weaves.
As a guide to thread count, bed linen, called ‘percale’,
is taken to mean it has a minimum thread count of 180. All casings
used in the Novadown range exceed this.
WEAVE
TWILL ~ is a highly versatile weave. It allows for an extremely
fine density thread count for superior strength. In addition the
softer and thicker weft yarn (those across the width) are on the
inside and in contact with the filling. Overtime the fabric becomes
matted through use and therefore increases in density, making it
particularly suitable for pillows.
CAMBRIC ~ a linen weave that combines the finest cotton yarns for
extreme lightness. We have found this combination ideal for down
fill or feather down mixtures. 100% cotton 280 thread cambric is
our high thread count fabric in our standard range.
SATEEN ~ weave takes its name from the effect. The high count of
warp threads (those down the length) gives a luxurious shiny right
side. Because this takes more yarn it is the most expensive weave.
LYOCELL ~ In addition to 100% cotton fabrics Novadown has an exclusive
fabric consisting of 100% Lenzing Lyocell. Lenzing Lyocell is a
new fibre type made of 100% cellulose. Thanks to its natural origin
Lenzing Lyocell has good breathing properties as well as being pleasant
to the skin. Advanced technology in production and finishing provide
for a very easycare fabric.
The fine Lyocell Cambric fabric is luxurious and fine (90 gram/m
2 ) 320 thread count.
